🌿 CHAPTER 5 — When Things Got Harder

There came a point when things shifted.

Not suddenly, but unmistakably.

The falls.

The confusion.

The frustration—hers and mine.

Her eyes searching for something she couldn’t name.

My heart breaking for the hundredth time.

Difficult decisions came:

What support did we need?

How much could I manage alone?

What was safest?

What was kindest?

What was realistic?

No guidebook prepares you for these questions.

All you can do is make the best decisions you can with the love and knowledge you have.

You will doubt yourself.

You will wish you had done things differently.

But you will be doing what millions of carers have had to do—choosing on behalf of someone you love.

And that is its own kind of courage.
